Description

Would you believe that in the early days of building townhouses in Charleston, South Carolina, brick was more economical (to say nothing of being more fire proof) than wood? As the story goes, when The Josiah Smith House was constructed, the owner resisted all the enticing wiles of his wife and did the embarrassingly, socially incorrect thing by building this home of brick. As usual, she had the last say. Upon his untimely demise, his fortune was put to good use in framing over the entire structure with costly lumber. Whoever said, "women always get their way" certainly knew what they were talking about. There must be a moral to this story - somewhere.
